First armed attack on a Turkish newspaper

The offices of the Turkish newspaper “Hurriyet” were attacked by an unknown assailant on the night of the 12nd of December.

The suspect fired at least six shots from a moving vehicle, but no one was hurt. The reason for the attack is suspected to be political. The authorities have launched an investigation immediately prior to the attack.

The Hurriyet is one of the oldest Turkish newspapers founded in 1948 with 52 offices in Turkey and abroad.

The above mentioned media is considered to be in opposition to the current government. This is not the first time the office was attacked but it is the first time that attackers have utilized firearms.
